Samaritans of New York Suicide Prevention Center

Most people are shocked to learn that more New Yorkers die from suicide than from homicide and more Americans die from suicide than from automobile accidents.

Samaritans believes suicide prevention is not about death and dying but about life, living and exploring options, helping people get through their difficult times.

That is the work of Samaritans and its caring volunteers 24 hours a day—on the completely confidential suicide prevention hotline, through our public education training programs, through our suicide survivor support groups.

A Safe Place to Turn in Times of Crisis...

caring, empathetic responses from people professionally trained in active listening and suicide risk assessments.

Always There!  Providing free, immediately accessible support to people dealing with every kind of problem.

Besides depression and distress, the 76,562 our hotline volunteers answered last year also dealt with trauma, tragic loss, broken relationships, financial hardship, substance abuse, sexual identity and so much more.
