Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death of American youth, the CDC reports. And for every suicide death there are an estimated 25 attempts, of tremendous significance when considering the impulsive, violent, self-harming and suicidal behavior exhibited by so many young people.
Research shows that the manner in which children are responded to by their family and caregivers when they are in distress shapes how they will react to crises as they get older.
This training will explore issues and challenges health providers face when responding to young people’s mental health and behavioral problems and their subsequent needs as well as approaches and strategies that have proved effective in addressing these issues with family members.
- an overview and perspective of suicide statistics and trends
- examining youth behaviors and psychological disorders
- understanding self-harming behaviors and lethality
- approaches and techniques that have proved effective
- strategies that can be utilized when working with family.
*Certificates of Attendance will be provided at program’s conclusion, with site supervisors copied.
